MS Wachau

When setting foot on board ship the passengers find themselves in the entrance area on the main deck. The entrance area is the focal point from which the two restaurants, one at the bow for 110, and one at the stern for 90 guests, respectively, can be reached. Also on this deck, next to the galley and the toilet for the handicapped, there are also the cash desk and the staircases downstairs to the toilets for the passengers on the lower deck, to the engine room, and the crew cabins. The main staircase from the entrance area leads upstairs to the generously laid out upper deck. The panorama parlour at the bow seats approximately 50 passengers, who can enjoy a most splendid view of the landscape as the boat glides through the waves.

The MS Wachau is a masterpiece of shipbuilding craftsmanship and is considered the very classical model among the Austrian river voyage boats. For better manoeuvrability – especially for mooring manoevres – the boat is equipped with an electrically driven bow thruster. Among other facilities are sonar, radar, and radiotelephone services to make for safe navigation. When passing below a bridge, the flagstaff and the characteristic funnel can be hydraulically laid down, and the helm stand can be retracted.

THE WACHAU

Between the towns Melk and Krems, the Danube flows through the Wachau region, quite justly considered the most beautiful section of the Danube. In the year 2000, the cultural landscape “Wachau, with the abbeys Melk and Göttweig, and the historic city of Krems” was included on the UNESCO World Heritag List.
