MS ADMIRAL TEGETTHOFF
TAKE A SHORT VACATION ON OUR FLAGSHIP
The 2012 completely new designed flagship MS Admiral Tegetthoff has been built in 1987. In 1987 the Austrian shipyards launched the two boats MS Admiral Tegetthoff and MS Dürnstein, which are identical in construction. The MS Admiral Tegetthoff is the flagship of the DDSG Blue Danube. The art-nouveau style boat is believed to be the most famous charter boat and has been ploughing the waves of the Danube since 2001. For better manoeuvrability -mainly for mooring manoeuvres – the boat is equipped with an electrically driven bowthruster. Among other facilities are sonar, radar, and radiotelephone services to make for safe navigation.
WHO WAS ADMIRAL TEGETTHOFF
The baron Admiral Wilhelm Freiherr von Tegetthoff (1827 – 1871) was the most outstanding admiral of the Austrian navy. He advocated the construction of steamships, and distinguished himself by his historic victory over the Italian fleet near the island of Lissa before the Dalmatian coast on 20 July 1866.
